25 Sentence Correction Questions for Placement and Competitive Exams [VERBAL ABILITY Q & A]

25 SENTENCE CORRECTION PRACTICE QUESTIONS FOR PLACEMENT | VERBAL ABILITY QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Verbal Ability is one of the ways in which a company or an organization tests the knowledge of English for candidates who apply for a job in that particular company.

Many colleges also conduct verbal ability tests for students who want to pursue higher studies.

Sentence Correction’ is a part of the verbal ability test. Here a number of sentences are given. Each sentence is divided into four parts - (a), (b), (c), and (d), where (d) denotes ‘No Error in the sentence.’

Four options are given. The person taking the test has to choose the option that has an error in it. They don’t have to give a reason for choosing a particular option. They just have to identify whether the error lies in (a), (b), (c), or the correct option is (d) - No Error. Accordingly, they have to mark the option.

Some tests also have five options to choose from.

How To Prepare For VERBAL ABILITY QUIZ

Most of the individuals preparing for the verbal ability test try to by heart the grammar behind writing a sentence. If you know the English Grammar Rules properly or are really good at it, this can be one way to identify the error in a given sentence.

But not everybody is good at understanding Grammar and they get overwhelmed with the rules.

What does the individual do in such a case?

The next best alternative that I suggest and even follow is to read a lot. Read a variety of English content. The range should vary from novels to non-fiction and include magazines and periodicals.

In short, an individual should read anything and everything in English that he comes across.

He has to do this consciously every single day. In fact, he should repeat this activity of reading in English so often that reading should become a part of his lifestyle.

The second thing an individual can do to master verbal ability is to start writing in English. It can be a personal diary, a short story, an essay, or even a blog. Writing involves thinking and creating sentences. This will give ample practice in improving one’s verbal ability.

The third thing to do is solve as many verbal ability questions as possible. There are many websites that offer verbal ability quiz. Take that quiz. Maybe there are many free apps that you can download and practice verbal ability. In this era of the internet, we still have libraries in colleges. You can visit your college library and borrow a book on verbal ability. These books are really huge and you will have a ton of verbal ability questions to practice from.

 One more thing,

I have seen many students who are preparing for a job interview and have to sit for verbal ability tests start their preparation just a couple of days before the test. It has become their habit. These students don’t start preparing for their academic exams also till the time they don’t receive the exam timetable.

If you are one of them you need to break this habit.

Remember, you have a syllabus in college and the questions are asked only from what has been taught to you. But in verbal ability tests, there is no standard question bank from where the verbal ability questions will be asked. You prepare thirty questions and they may ask something that you never read.

That is why I insist on reading a variety of topics in English.

Go ahead and get started RIGHT NOW if you want to ace your verbal ability test!

In this blog, I share twenty-five ‘Sentence Correction’ Questions that you can practice to improve your verbal ability.
