Career Building Tips & Advice 2021: Do this to SKY ROCKET Your Career!

How to Reach for the Sky in Your Profession and Career Even if you don’t have your Dream Job?

‘Is it the job or is it the attitude towards doing a job that leads to success in career and life?’

This has been one of the questions that have been disturbing me for a long, long time now.

Let’s face it. In real life, not everybody gets hired in their dream job. Whatever job we get most of us have to start thinking that this is the dream job that I always focused on getting or this is the profession that I will be happy being in for the rest of my life. If not for the rest of the life then at least for a certain number of years.

This behavior or attitude towards the job can open up many avenues when it comes to building a career. If one can’t start big, at the most one can start small.

Whether you like your job or hate it, each day your job offers an opportunity to you to look at your job in a different light. Either we can close our eyes towards that light or we can sit up, take notice and then do something about it.

As I started my second innings in the corporate world, I was lost as to what I could do in the organization. The management was also not sure exactly how I will be contributing to the organization.

Instead of sitting and wondering I decided to be proactive and started looking at what I could control in my day-to-day job.

Now, as an individual I love content. Whether it is fiction or non-fiction I try to read as much as I can. I was working in a Training Organization. This gave me the opportunity to not only read the vast content that was there in front of me but also to start putting the content in proper order. The activity that I started doing at my job I called Content Housekeeping.

I created a pathway for the content. Each content went into a new folder depending on the topic and relevance of the material in the training program.

When I shared what I had done with the scattered content on the computer my boss took notice and a new role was assigned to me. To type, and create relevant content for the training program.

It was something that excited me because as I have mentioned above that I love to read a lot, especially on the subject of Personal Development.

Slowly and steadily I was treading through the water and trying to get a grip in the organization.

One important aspect of this job of mine was that I really wanted it to work for me. Because of this, I started looking at ways that kept me excited and engrossed in what I loved to do and also was getting paid for it. I was not earning a huge salary but at least I was creating my own path into a totally new world. For most of you, this may appear the most boring job or even a waste of time. But for me, this was all I could hang on to as I started to work on my second career that started very, very late. I even didn’t mind coming on a Sunday to the office to help my immediate boss with some paperwork.

I was focused and determined to give myself every possible opportunity to succeed.

Nobody told me what to do or what not to do. Once in a while, I tried asking my immediate superiors but the response was not so enthusiastic because they were all busy fighting their own daily battle. That is the time I realized that if I wait for someone to give me work, one day I might not have any work to do in the organization.

During the daily staff meeting, I would even go ahead and say that I didn’t have enough work to do on that particular day. Surprisingly it created a positive impact on the entire team and I came up as an individual who is hungry for work. My boss and immediate seniors made sure I had work to do.

This attitude of mine helped me carve a niche for myself in the organization.

Now, coming back to the question that I asked in the beginning:

‘Is it the job or is it the attitude towards doing a job that leads to success in career and life?’

Here I would like to share a very important life lesson that I picked up in that organization.

“Not always people will be willing to come forward and guide you in your path to success. Whatever happens to me is because of the actions that I took or am willing to take starting today. I need to stand up and be responsible for my own work and life! Even if it involves doing something as mundane and ordinary as getting up in the morning and showing up for work before time with full enthusiasm.”

I needed to continuously push myself high and up. I needed to test my limits with whatever capabilities and skills that I possessed.

From that day onwards I held myself accountable for whatever happened to me in my job. If I succeeded I will try to make my success a habit and if I failed I will strive harder to overcome my limitations and hurdles.

From that moment onwards the way I looked up to my job changed. I started enjoying every bit of the action that my job involved. Now no job was boring or time waste. Everything became fun and exciting for me.

Whenever there was a routine job I volunteered to take up the task because now I was onto a BIG SECRET! The more activities I do in the organization the faster I will be learning the ropes of the trade.

Today I have changed my company but my attitude and my behavior towards my job remain the same. In fact, I may not have the desired designation in an organization but that doesn't stop me from doing high-level things at my job -

Whether it is creating new content or preparing a quiz, or doing research on a particular topic, whatever someone on a designated post did I did it at my own level without bothering whether I had the necessary designation to carry out such activities. Of course, I did not cross the limit and didn't take up responsibilities that could bring my growth and my strive for knowledge to a halt.

In Conclusion

Do you want to turn around the things that are not happening the way you want them to happen?

 Do not wait!

Start making difference starting today at your job. It may not be your ideal job but who knows it may turn out to be the job that you had always wanted!
