2. NOMOPHOBIA

 

MEANING:

 

NOMOPHOBIA or ‘No Mobile Phone Phobia’ is a psychological condition where people are fearful of getting disconnected from their mobile phone connectivity. This can be because of their phone getting discharged or having no signal.

 

EXAMPLE SENTENCES:

 

(a) Nomophobia is rising amongst today’s teenagers.

 

(b) To avoid suffering from Nomophobia people don’t miss any opportunity to charge their mobile phone.

 

3. ANTI CLIMATIC

 

MEANING:

 

Something that emerges far less dramatic or important than expected. It is also a feeling that causes disappointment at the end of an exciting event or a film.

 

EXAMPLE SENTENCES:

 

(a) Despite all the hype and promotion, the film was boring and anti-climatic.

 

(b) I was expecting the novel to end with nail-biting finish but it turned out to be anti-climatic.

 

4. A – GAME

 

MEANING:

 

'A – Game' can be considered as highest level of performance in any field by a person. It can also be an individual’s best effort he can produce.

 

EXAMPLE SENTENCES:

 

(a) He brought his A-Game to the discussion.

 

(b) Wow! Your performance was A-game.

 

5. DEEPFAKE

 

MEANING:

 

An image or a recording involving an individual, that has been digitally altered to fake someone doing an action that was not actually done by the person can be considered as deepfake. Someone deliberately does this to spread false information.

 

EXAMPLE SENTENCES:

 

(a) Social media is littered with deepfake images and videos.

 

(b) Beware of deepfake images and videos that can negatively influence your mind.

 

6. MINIMALIST

 

MEANING:

 

A minimalist refers to someone who loves to keep things very simple. The person prefers a minimal amount of anything.

 

EXAMPLE SENTENCES:

 

(a) He prefers a minimalist lifestyle.

 

(b) In this world of materialistic hoardings, it is very difficult to lead a minimalist life.

 

7. HANKER

 

MEANING:

 

The word refers to wanting something very much that one cannot easily have. We can also relate it to having a strong and continual desire for something.

 

EXAMPLE SENTENCES:

 

(a) Staying away from my family for months, I began to hanker for a trip to my hometown.

 

(b) Fed up of having the same food daily, he hankered for junk food.

 

8. CUPIDITY

 

MEANING:

 

The behavior showing excessive desire or greed for money and materialistic possessions is cupidity.

 

EXAMPLE SENTENCES:

 

(a) His cupidity led him to cheat others.

 

(b) Cupidity can destroy your chances of success in business.

 

9. WEBAQOOF

 

MEANING:

 

It is a word that applies to people out there who believe that every claim or allegation posted on the internet and social media is true.

 

EXAMPLE SENTENCES:

 

(a) Don’t be a webaqoof. Anybody can claim to be an expert on social media.

 

(b) Webaqoofs are people who only know and believe what social media shows them.

 

10. AB INITIO

 

MEANING:

 

The word refers to something starting from the beginning or from scratch.

 

EXAMPLE SENTENCES:

 

(a) The ab initio training program for the 2nd year students has begun.

 

(b) Let’s work on this project ab initio. This way we will learn new things.

 

11. KEN

 

MEANING:

 

The word ‘ken’ relates to an individual’s range of knowledge and understanding of a topic. It also considers people’s mental perceptions about a subject.

(a) If you talk finance with him, he will get bored because financial matters are beyond his ken.

12. VERSATILE PERSON

 

MEANING:

 

A versatile person is someone who can adapt to a lot of things and can handle various tasks or is competent in many activities.

We can refer to an individual who is skilled in doing a variety of tasks as a versatile person.

13. ENVISAGE

 

MEANING:

 

To envisage is to foresee a future event as a possibility. It is especially related to something positive. It is also associated with forming an image in the mind about something.

(a) Can today’s teenagers envisage their future in this dynamic world?

 

(b) I don’t envisage any hurdles from now on with this project.

 

14. ARTICULATE

 

MEANING:

 

Articulate is all about expressing yourself clearly and effectively either in speech or in writing.

(a) If you want your ideas to be accepted by people, then you should learn to articulate it well to your audience.

 

(b) Because the teacher could articulate the concept well, the students found it easy to understand.

 

15. La La LAND

 

MEANING:

 

La La land is a term that refers to being in a dream-like world disconnected from the harsh realities of life. People wander off in La La Land because of bliss or ignorance.

 

EXAMPLE SENTENCES:

 

(a) If he thinks that life is going to be easy-breezy after college, he is living in a la la land.
