Why You’re Not Achieving Your Real Goals (And What To Do About It)
👋 Hi, I’m Rakesh Prasad, a Communication and Soft Skills Trainer.
For the past several years, I’ve worked with college students from diverse backgrounds, helping them move from silent and unsure to confident and career-ready.
And over the years, I’ve noticed something curious…
Most students don’t give up because it’s “too hard.”
They give up because something else feels easier.
Let’s unwrap this together.
🌱 The Hidden Reason Behind Unfinished Dreams
We often blame lack of resources, bad luck, or external problems for not achieving our goals.
But truthfully?
It’s not the obstacles that stop us.
It’s the easier paths that distract us.
These distractions often come disguised as comfort, entertainment, or even “useful activities” that don’t truly move us forward.
We start with big dreams.
We mean to do great things.
But slowly, without realising, we drift.
And one day… we wake up far from where we intended to go.
🎯 The Trap of Easier, Lesser Goals
We don’t fail because we’re lazy.
We fail because we trade purpose for convenience.
We follow the path that’s well-lit and well-trodden, rather than the one that truly lights us up.
Let’s take some real-life examples I see in college campuses all the time:
🧩 Think About It...
✔️ You joined college to build a career in your chosen field...
But somehow, you got more consistent at watching reels than building skills.
✔️ You wanted to improve your English and build confidence...
But you found comfort in silent corners or back benches—and avoided every chance to speak up.
✔️ You aimed to get placed in a good company...
But you spent more time perfecting your video game rank than your résumé.
✔️ You wanted to stand out...
But you ended up blending in because it felt safer.
✔️ You hoped to build a strong network with successful students...
But you stuck only to your old school friends and missed opportunities to connect.
🔦 Clarity vs Comfort
Clarity isn’t just about choosing the right goal—
It’s about recognising distractions that wear the mask of progress.
So if you're feeling stuck right now, ask yourself:
-
Did I lose track of my main goal?
-
Have I started chasing something easier, but less meaningful?
-
Am I proud of how I’m spending my energy?
🧭 One Question That Can Change Your Trajectory
Next time you feel demotivated, confused, or “too tired to try,”
Pause.
Reflect.
Ask yourself:
Am I stuck because of a real obstacle…
or because I’ve taken a smoother road that leads nowhere?
💬 Your Turn
What was your original dream when you joined college?
Are you still on that path? Or did something “easier” quietly pull you away?
Let’s bring the real goal back into focus.
